Barrier Sciences Group Now Performs Spray Foam Inspections and Airtightness Tests
WOODSTOCK, ON – October 19, 2018 – Barrier Sciences Group (BSG), an early pioneer in spray polyurethane foam insulation regulation, now provides spray foam inspections and airtightness tests on buildings in Ontario.
Spray foam inspections are offered in partnership with Caliber Quality Solutions (Caliber), the organization responsible for the administration of the Caliber Quality Assurance Program. Airtightness tests on new homes are conducted under the supervision of BSG’s Service Organization Manager, Rick Miller.
BSG ensures that spray foam insulation has been installed according to both manufacturer specifications and CAN/ULC S705.2 requirements. This allows spray foam installers to increase yield, and consistently meet the standards set by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre. Spray foam inspection is required as part of building code.
Uncontrolled air leakage in the average Canadian home results in losing and replacing all of its conditioned air more than 9 times each day. Spray polyurethane foam acts as continuous insulation and has air sealing qualities, making it an ideal solution for increasing airtightness in a home. Airtightness tests help prove the effectiveness of spray foam installation and help homebuilders reach lower Air Changes per Hour, reducing uncontrolled air leakage of the home.
“Spray foam installers benefit from airtightness tests because the qualities of their work can really shine through,” said Rick Miller, Service Organization Manager of BSG. “Builders with an airtight home have fewer callbacks, fewer problems, and happier occupants. Much of this can be linked back to the insulation, proving the workmanship of the installer. The same can be said for spray foam inspection. Contractors are always going to choose the installers who can prove their craft.”
“Our mission at Caliber is to provide confidence to everyone involved in the building process, from consumer to manufacturer” said Dave Andre, CEO of Caliber. “A spray foam inspection isn’t just a building code requirement. It assures a high quality standard for the spray foam industry. Rick and the team at Barrier Sciences Group have impressed me with their expertise and energy services, and we are pleased to add them to our selective group of qualified spray foam inspectors.”
BSG analyzes the following during spray foam insulation inspections:
