CertainTeed® CertaSpray® Meets Industry Approval
VALLEY FORGE, PA - February 10, 2012 - CertainTeed Corporation announced today that its CertaSpray Closed Cell Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Insulation has been approved for use in non-combustible commercial walls.
CertainTeed recently passed the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 285 and 259 tests, which certify CertaSpray for use within non fire-rated wall assemblies of commercial non-combustible and heavy timber construction. The tests, required by the International Building Code (IBC), measure the vertical flame spread and potential heat of foamed plastics, such as SPF.
As a result of NFPA testing, CertaSpray can now be used within the stud cavities or on the exterior of walls in buildings clad with brick, stucco or other type of non-open-jointed heavy claddings. The product can also be used in walls, attics, ceilings, floors, basements and crawl spaces in Types I, II, III, IV, and V construction in accordance with the (IBC) and in dwellings in accordance with the International Residential Code (IRC).
“Completion of this testing now allows CertainTeed to extend the energy saving benefits of closed cell spray foam further into the commercial construction market,” said Lionel Rossignol, product manager, CertainTeed Insulation.
CertaSpray Closed Cell SPF products can be utilized both within the stud cavities and on the exterior side of wall sheathing. It can also be used in attics, floor and ceiling assemblies, and crawl spaces to create tight, durable, energy efficient buildings. The resulting air infiltration reduction from SPF not only improves indoor air quality and minimizes the potential for moisture problems in wall assemblies, it also significantly lowers heating and cooling costs for the building owner.
