Dudley Primeaux receives Lifetime Achievement Award from the Polyurea Development Assoc.

Spray Foam News – October 23, 2024 –  PDA (Polyurea Development Association) proudly awarded Dudley J Primeaux II its Lifetime Achievement Award at their conference in Anaheim, CA. This distinguished honor recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the coatings industry throughout their careers.

With a BS and MS in Chemistry from Lamar University, Primeaux launched his career at Texaco as a research chemist in Port Arthur, Texas. He subsequently transferred to Texaco Chemical Company in Austin, Texas, where he played a pivotal role in the development of polyurea spray elastomer technology. Following the acquisition of Texaco Chemical by Huntsman Corp in 1994, he became a partner at EnviroChem Technologies LLC in Fort Worth, Texas, managing a global network of certified contractor companies and driving innovation in coating systems.

Primeaux views those foundational years as transformative, immersing himself in the chemistry and practical application of this groundbreaking technology. In 2001, after EnviroChem's acquisition by General Polymers/Sherwin-Williams, he made a bold decision to establish Primeaux Associates LLC, focusing on what he aptly describes as "the fun part of the industry." Since then, he has collaborated with a diverse array of companies on chemistry, product development, and project management, continuing to actively participate in field applications and inspections.

As a major force in advancing polyurea for spray applications since 1986, Primeaux is energized by the technology’s remarkable global growth. He is deeply involved in industry associations and passionately shares his extensive knowledge through teaching technical writing, and authoring over 60 publications. With more than 30 U.S. and foreign patents to his name, he is a recognized innovator in the field.

Primeaux attributes his success to the generous guidance of his colleagues in his careers early years and is committed to passing this knowledge on to the next generation, asserting, “This is the way I was raised by my parents, to give back. It makes me proud when students in class or industry professionals reach out with questions, later sharing their successful projects with me! That is my true reward.”

Among his many accolades, Primeaux stands as one of the founding fathers of the PDA and has earned certification as one of the select SSPC (now AMPP) Protective Coatings Specialists. Therefore, it is little wonder that he received the PDA Lifetime Achievement Award.

His humility, however, shone through when he expressed his surprise at the presentation, stating, “They kept this a big secret, and it was a complete surprise, and a very humbling experience.”
