Foamrite USA's Measuring Pins Add Color to Spray Polyurethane Foam Applications
ORLANDO, FL – October 16, 2013 – Many a spray foam applicator will apply SPF inside a home or a commercial building at a thickness that meets the particular project's specifications. However, there are situations where contractors spray too much, or not enough foam, and get call-backs due to this. To alleviate these problems, Foamrite USA came up with measuring pins for spray foam applications that provide a simple and accurate way to determine accurate thickness.
An American-made product, the measuring pins eliminate all the guesswork from SPF installation by accurately measuring the depth of foam being installed. The pins are length-specific pins ranging from 2 to 11 inches at half-inch increments. Robert Adams, vice president of Foamrite USA, says that the pins are a magnificent tool for builders and contractors to save money on material and labor costs, avoid call backs from home and business owners, and facilitate project inspections.
"The pin visually tells the homeowner or business owner that the inches of foam sprayed was the right amount instead of just going by hearsay," said Adams. "There was no way for inspectors to know how thick the material sprayed is without stabbing it with something, so our measuring pins can move that part of the inspection right along, and installers can save on material because they won't spray more than they need to with the pins as a guide."
The pins are simple to use with one end having a peel-on stick backing. Once peeled, the pins are simply stuck to the substrate with even pressure. Then, the SPF is applied around the pin and becomes flush with it as it expands. The solid plastic exterior of the pins prevents thermal bridging, so the only thing the installer has to worry about is wiping off any overspray on the pins to facilitate inspections.
To make things even easier, the pins come in different colors according to their size. According to Adams, this was done so that the thickness can be identified once the foam has been applied around the pin. There are nine different colors for every size from two to six inches, including the half-inch increments. Measuring pins above six inches are available only through custom orders.
"You'll know when you look and see blue that it's three inches and black when it's 5.5 inches of foam, it's so simple" said Adams. "The reason we chose to label them in colors and not use a number system is because it's easier to distinguish, if we had numbers written on it they'd be hard to see because of overspray and the pin would not serve its function properly."
