Fomo Products’ Handi-Foam Approved for Residential Duct Work

NORTON, OH–August 9, 2012–Fomo Products' Handi-Foam® E84 Class 1 low pressure spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation has been evaluated for use in residential duct work applications by the ICC Evaluation Service. Additionally, Handi-Foam E84 low pressure SPF was tested in accordance to NFPA 286 in a simulated end-use configuration, meaning the product can be left exposed in residential duct joint sealing applications, eliminating the need for an ignition barrier, saving contractors time and money.

Handi-Foam E84 Class 1 low-pressure spray polyurethane foam was found to be in compliance by the ICC Evaluation Service (report ESR 2717) for the 2009 International Building Code (IBC), 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) and the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) requirements. Handi-Foam E84 Class 1 is approved for use as nonstructural thermal insulating material in Type V-B construction under the IBC and dwellings under the IRC.

Based on this successful testing, Handi-Foam E84 Class 1 can be used in residential duct joint sealing applications without a thermal or ignition barrier coating. The use of spray foam in residential duct work is limited to a maximum depth of two inches in thickness and six inches in width for each application.

Handi-Foam E84 Class 1 SPF was evaluated on physical properties, surface-burning characteristics, thermal resistance (R-values) and air permeability.
