I was just trying get some other contractors to rock the boat a little. We've tried the 178 system on some industrial type work and went right back to the 158 immediately. I think the 178 is primarily for residential applications.

Now it seems it may come to fruition. The two systems are both 2.0# class 1 foams, but they are nothing alike. The 158 is a little denser, and does spray smoother, which makes it great for certain applications. On the flip side, the 178 yield is better. If aesthetics matter, the 158 is hands down better. But in this day and age lots of work out there is covered up by sheetrock, so the 178 with the better yield would seem to be the more preferred foam. Dont get me wrong, good applicators can spray 178 just about as smooth as 158, the skin on the 158 looks nicer though.
