charred wood
Mason Would a closed cell foam take care of the smell of charred wood as in a house fire?Would it seal it enough? You would still have the face of the studs. Had a few people ask me this question.

The foam would seal some of the odor but as you mention the studs would still give off some fumes. I would be concerned about adhesion as well. |

The rule of thumb for reducing odors related to smoke or charring is to thoroughly clean the surface. If this does not work than sealing the charring with an impermeable paint. I personally have had success with soda blasting the wood to remove the majority of the charring which will also allow SPF to be applied w/out fear of adhesion issues. |

Gomezda, Thanks for the advice. There are companies that specialize in treating charred wood. I had a rental house in New Mexico some years ago that was firebombed. A company came in, cleaned it up and treated the wood and other surfaces. No lingering odors. |
