I have used "paint to protect" http://painttoprotect.com/?gclid=CJWSktP2qIkCFSMkWAodSG5tUA It costs about 65cents sq ft for a one hour rating. You can get a two hour fire rating with two coats. We used it in a hotel recently in the attic firewalls. |

Contego is not a 15 minute thermal barrier, or at least they will not send me UBC-26-2 test report. |

Guess I should have stated that the fire marshall here wants a 1 hour fire rating |

You can also double up drywall for a longer fire rating. I think two sheets of 5/8in is one hour. Not sure though. Good luck |

He suggested using fire proofing material like they use to protect steel in Highrise buildings so I would believe he wants both. He did tell me that two layers of 5/8 fire rated sheetrock was acceptable but that seems like a huge extra expense to me. |
