Foam thickness in Texas
Howdy, I'm looking at getting spray foam in the cabin I'm building in central Texas. I got a few bids, with people recommending varying foam thicknesses of open cell foam, and am not sure what would be the best here. It is a metal roofed building, and the exterior will be rock. As it is Texas, I'm not really as concerned about it keeping heat in in the winter as I am wanting to keep the heat out in the summer to reduce my AC costs.

Basically what I'm comparing is either 7" or 5.5" of foam in the ceiling, and 5" or 3.5" in the walls. Would the added expense of going thicker in the ceiling, walls, or both be worth it for the potential energy savings? Or at that point is the difference not all that great? Any advice would be appreciated.

The thicker the better, plain and simple. I would fill as much as you can afford. Anything over 7-8" may be overkill.
