I am testing a versa foam 28 88 when we put a flame to it, it did flame up an started to burn, but when we move the flame away it started to go out my question is that a sign that there is fire retardant in this foam. everything I read about indicates none present. we have a fire proof paint that we are testing on foam I have to make sure there is not no fire retardant present.

That is a characteristic of most polyurethane foam plastic regardless of the amount of fire retardent in it.

Most plastic products have fire retardents in them and I suspect that the foam you tried has fire retardents in them also.

However, my question to you is why the concern about fire retardents? I expect there are many items in your house and car made of plastic products or containing plastic and most of those products have fire retardents in them (such as pillows, mattresses, car seats, dashboards, couches, upholstered chairs, carpet cushions, computers, DVD players, etc.

Roxy,

Check with the supplier and ask if they have an unrated foam with no fire retardents. Most foam used in buildings will have flame retardents in them to reduce flame spread.
