Rim Joists
I was wonder what everyone does with the rim joist around a house with an unfinished basement? If I understand the code it would have to be covered if sprayed with foam? The only simple solution would be unfaced fiberglass, which is typically used. Only it seems kinda hard to use fiberglass after I just told the customer how bad it is for them as a reason to use foam. I was trying to stay away from fiberglass and use foam or cellulose when needed. Any thoughts

sucks but true,,,the inspectors will not want to see exposed foam (explosive ya know!) ironically these are high loss area's that are difficult to insulate well.. my contractors want foam in their box and bands,,so they cover it with an r11 batt that is torn in 1/2 thickness in unfinished areas,,,,,no, this aint a thermal barrier,,but the local inspectors will let it go..talk to the inspectors,,ask what they expect...more than likely they wont even know for sure.... |

Right, Dude. The inspector likely won't even know what an ignition barrier is. gcw |
