Shields - Should They Wrap Over The PVC?
Based on a recommendation, we will make our shields out of PVC framework, with a blue tarp with holes so that, from what we were told, the foam build up can be peeled off.

Anyway, should the tarp be slightly smaller than the frame and zip tied through the grommets, or should it be larger than the frame and wrapped over the frame to keep foam off of it?

Boyd,

I have found the best wind screens to be made with PVC pipe with a mesh such as burlap or similar material. The burlap allows a little bit of air through so that it is easier to handle in a wind, it but not enough to affect the foam pattern. The burlap can be replaced when needed.

Using a plastic tarp can be a hassle to clean foam off. It might do well for one or 2 times then the foam tends to stick and make it difficult to remove.

You can either have a few straight screens that are held against the wind by 2 persons each or a complete enclosure with attached wheels.

The wind screens should be around 6 ft high and fairly long (8-10 ft.) so that the spray pattern does not hit the burlap. If using an enclosure it should be wide enough to make 2 passes within the enclosure without having to move the screen.

I would add that on days where the wind is not too bad, in about 5 minutes, you can take some 1 mil plastic and wrap your windscreen, taping it on the back side as needed. as you do your perimeter work, the foam will build up on the screen, and you can just peel it off the plastic in one piece and toss it off the roof. It helps prolong the replacement of the actual screening material.
