stone foundations
There are a lot of rock/stone foundations in Northern New England. Does anyone spray these from floor to ceiling (1st floor)?
My concern is before spraying there is enough heat loss thru the rock to keep the ground from freezing. After you spray and eliminate the heat loss is the ground going to freeze so bad as to heave the irregular shaped foundation and cause damage and liability for us.
Right now I've only sprayed from a foot or so below grade to the ceiling (1st floor), and have not encountered any problems. What is everyones thoughts on this? Thanks

Yes, We do spray foundations here in VT and we often spray stone and dry-laid with about 2-3" of 3# cc down to a vapor barrier in crawl spaces or generally about 2' below grade over cement floors. We advocate proper perimeter drainage to avoid heaves. Below 2' below grade freezing isn't a big issue but we will spray the entire wall if the client wishes or if moisture intrusion is an issue. We have also used 3# on foundation exteriors with direct dirt contact with good results
