A Great Year: The Story of an Idaho Spray Foam Cutter / Trimmer Manufacturer

POTLATCH, ID – June 17, 2011 – Schmidt & Dirks Designs, Inc. has been in the Spray Foam business for nearly six years. Starting out as an independent insulation company in northeastern Idaho, Schmidt & Dirks Designs took a turn in early 2010 with the release of their first spray foam trimmer, the C I Cutter.

“When we first started as an independent insulation company five years ago,” said Amos Dirks, an executive manager of Schmidt & Dirks. “We were often frustrated with the equipment we were working with. A lot of the trimmers we were using for our day-to-day jobs were not meeting our satisfaction. As a consequence, we decided to begin designing our own trimmers and that’s how Schmidt & Dirks Designs began.”

Schmidt & Dirks’s first trimmer, the C I Cutter, used primarily for trimming open cell foam, was marketed and made available for purchase in early 2010. Since then, the company has seen nothing but success. “Right now we have over 100 trimmers on the market and customers are absolutely thrilled with our products,” said Dirks. Some of the trimmer benefits include:

• Tooth design and powerful electric power-head makes it far faster than all other trimmers on the market.
• Because of the full width trimming, the Cutter cleans the studs and the wall at one time allowing you to start anywhere on a completely foamed wall.

Dirks also explained the company has garnered acclaim not just from their products, but also for their direct customer service. “We deal directly with the customers,” Dirks said. “Initially, we hired a distributing company to handle the sales of our trimmers to customers all over the United States. Unfortunately, we were not satisfied with their customer support. As a result, we decided to eliminate the middleman and began distributing the trimmers ourselves.”

Now if customers were to place an order for any Schmidt & Dirks Deigns equipment, the company strives to have the product shipped generally within 24 hours.

Schmidt & Dirks Designs is also known not only for their trimmers but also for their lightweight C I Vacuum products as well. “We designed the lightweight vacuum so customers did not have to worry about heavy costs of removing excess foam materials while on the job,” said Dirks.

Dirks and the rest of Schmidt & Dirks Designs are currently designing new products for their C I Vacuum design. “We cannot reveal anything as of yet, but what I can say is that we are working on better clean up products that are more efficient and much more user friendly.”
