Alabama Spray Foam to the Rescue
Spray Foam Magazine – Fall 2020 –Jeremy Archer, owner of Alabama Spray Foam, is a firefighter in Birmingham, Alabama where, like most full-time firefighters, he has a 24 hour on and 48 hours off schedule, making the professions of fighting fires and spraying foam work well together. Jeremy has a partner in the business, Tyler Pelkey and another installer, Chris Brewis who is also a fellow firefighter and works with Jeremy on his off days, enabling them to keep their jobs going every day of the week.
In May of this year, while many of us were navigating in a world on pandemic lockdown, a young firefighter with a family of three was in a battle for his life. Lt. Bobby Price of the Gardendale Fire and Rescue Department in Alabama and his wife, Krista were involved in a serious ATV accident, both sustaining major injuries. Krista has recovered well; however, Bobby was left paralyzed. Lt. Bobby Price served as a firefighter for fifteen years and was in the process of building a home for his family when the life changing accident occurred. The Price’s accident deeply impacted the community in which they lived and worked. Lt. Price’s fellow firefighters at Glendale Fire and Rescue and neighboring Center Point Fire and Rescue joined forces to do whatever they could to help make life a little easier for one of their own.
Community members and firefighters came together to give back to a young man who had put his life on the line for others for over fifteen years and who was now in a situation where he needed help. His firefighter friends quickly realized that one of the best things they could do to help their “brother” was to not only finish the construction of his home, but also make it handicap accessible, energy efficient to save him money over the years, and as low maintenance as possible. When Chris Brewis heard about the lieutenant’s accident and the extent of his injuries, he went to Jeremy and asked if there was any way that Alabama Spray Foam could help out. Chris says that, “Without hesitation, Jeremy said, ‘absolutely!’”
About a month later when the call came in that the structure was ready for insulation, Jeremy and Chris went to work spraying Lt. Bobby Price’s home. They sprayed three and a half inches of Icynene-Lapolla Classic Ultra Select open-cell foam in the walls and five and a half inches in the ceiling joists using a PH2 proportioner and Graco Fusion guns. The total spray area was 36,000 board feet, approximately a $12,000 job, which was entirely donated by Alabama Spray Foam.
“Spray foam pays dividends for the life of the house. It will help Bobby save on his energy bills for the rest of his life,” says Chris and Jeremy. According to Chris, Bobby was overwhelmed and very grateful that someone would do a job like this at no cost.
Regarding his company, Jeremy states, “We have learned a lot and grown since our first job in September of 2018. We do every job to the very best of our ability and we treat everyone’s home as if we were working on our own.”
Chris is also in charge of the Explorer program at Center Point Fire and Rescue where young teens interested in possibly becoming a firefighter, volunteer and spend time at the station learning about the career. From this program, a total of twelve of the youths came along with Chris and Jeremy to help out any way they could. They did a lot of prep work and clean up, all while learning an important lesson—giving back and helping others in their time of need.
When Jeremy and Chris aren’t fighting fires and spraying foam, they’re mentoring youth and giving back to others. We, here at Spray Foam Magazine, commend Alabama Spray Foam on their generosity to their community and their integrity in the spray foam world.
