Connecticut State Senate and House Pass Bill to Develop Regulations for Spray Foam Insulation
HARTFORD, CT - June 3, 2013 - A bill that directly affects the spray polyurethane foam industry has been passed by the Conn. State Senate and House. The Senate voted to pass House Bill No. 5908, which became in effect once it was passed on May 30. The House of Representatives approved the bill on April 24 before it went to the Senate.
The bill states that Connecticut will establish regulations to develop safety and certification requirements for the spray foam insulation industry to protect both professionals and consumers. Notwithstanding, no actual standards have been developed yet.
Before the bill's passing, the Committee on General Law of Connecticut had put the bill in motion by holding a public hearing and listening to testimony concerning the legislation. SPFA representatives announced their support for the proposed regulations considering their own efforts in developing their Professional Certification Program. The committee then voted unanimously for the bill's induction on March 12 and filed it on March 26.
A total of $20,000 has been allocated to the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) for the Fiscal Year 2014 to be used to consult with experts in the area of spray foam insulation in order to develop regulations regarding safety and certification standards.
