Eco Hopes as Luxury Floats
Spray Foam Magazine – Spring 2022 – The Eco-Floating Hotel is an impressive project whose first leg is planned to take place in Qatar. However, due to the hotel’s characteristic mobile features, the possibilities for it to be located anywhere are endless.
The Turkish architectural firm, Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS) studied the project with various opinions and technical knowledge from many diverse disciplines. In addition to these professional opinions were visions from consultants in fields such as ship construction engineers and ship architects, which played a big role in the project process.
The design stage of the Eco-Floating Hotel project started in March 2020 and lasted six months. The design approach and principal of the architects involved adopting the motto of minimum energy loss and zero waste. Due to its distinguishing moving feature, the hotel generates electrical energy by rotating around its position according to the water current. Below the water surface, there are also propellers and thrusters which are controlled by a dynamic positioning (DP) computer system. This revolving feature provides users with different perspective experiences throughout their stay.
The Eco-Floating Hotel will feature a glass roof intended to incorporate solar energy and has the added feature of a vortex roof (seen here in the render) which resembles water going down a plug hole, to collect any rainfall
It has recently been confirmed that spray foam will be applied between the hotel rooms and floors of the 350,000 sq.ft. structure to attempt to prevent the outside moisture from seeping in which in turn may cause issues like mold and poor air quality, among all the other benefits of SPF.
It has recently been confirmed that SPF will be applied between the hotel rooms and floors. There are several reasons for installing SPF between floors and wall spaces, such as creating a soundproof barrier between floors, thermal efficiency and helping to prevent the moisture outside from seeping in which in turn may cause issues like mold and poor air quality.
The circular shaped Eco-Floating Hotel will be created as a 5-Star Hotel with a construction area of just over 350,000 sq.ft. It will have a total of 152 rooms, each with its own balcony. The glass roof is intended to incorporate solar energy and has the added feature of a vortex roof which resembles water going down a plug hole, to collect any rainfall. Another eco aspect are the deck umbrellas which are a vertical axis wind turbine each capable of generating electricity.
The Eco-Floating Hotel will also include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, spa, sauna, gym, mini golf, and plans to include features to enable guests to arrive by car, boat, or helicopter, including different entrances that provide access from the shore to a 140-degree pier that surrounds it.
Once again, SPF has been selected for the quality properties it can offer. Having it spec’d in an impressive eco design to assist with the architect studio’s principles of minimum energy loss and zero waste, is an honor for the SPF industry and an exciting step into the future of foam.
