IFTI Program Assists Spray Foam Contractors to Meet Protective Coating Codes
IRVINE, CA – April 30, 2015 – International Fireproof Technology Inc., (IFTI) recently designed a training course to educate SPF contractors on the best practices of installation, code-compliance, and field quality assurance with IFTI’s DC315, an ignition and thermal barrier protective coating. The Certified Applicator Program (CAP) is comprised of the necessary tools for offering code-compliance solutions for protecting exposed spray polyurethane foam insulation with DC315. According to IFTI Executive Vice President Gary Wolfe, the program is geared to immerse SPF contractors in fire protective coating safety and meeting International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC) codes; and also opening the door to lucrative opportunities via code compliance.
“Through the program, we are teaching requirements pertaining to code compliance and proper application techniques to avoid recalls and any post-application issues,” Wolfe said. “By becoming CAP Certified, we validate that the contractor can install DC315 and a partnership is established, in which IFTI promotes their business through our online dealer locator, bid lists, and industry marketing opportunities. The program is structured to help our applicators stay above the competition.“
The CAP consists of four different modules that contain instructional text and educational videos that guide the potential applicator through each step of the code compliance process: from the bid stage, to the application, to the post-inspection final approval given by a code official or fire marshal. Furthermore, the CAP program reveals critical information on how to satisfy the requirements beset for each stage of the process. Prior to its completion, the program assesses the knowledge gained by the contractor in a test that the applicator must pass prior to earning CAP Certification.
“Once enrolled, the contractor can go through the program at their own pace,” Wolfe said. “If for some reason the applicator needs to attend to other matters and stop the program, when he or she decides to resume the program it’ll pick up on the training session or the exact line of the assessment test they were on.”
According to Wolfe, upon earning CAP Certification, the contractor automatically becomes part of IFTI’s referral program, in which IFTI directs customers that are looking for DC315 applicators in their respective jurisdiction to the SPF contractor.
“When a fire marshal, engineer, architect, code official, consumer, or contractor is looking for where DC315 is specifically requested and required for a certain project, we let our manufacturers know of that interest and recommend CAP Certified applicators in the area to install the coating because we know they are certified to apply our product,” Wolfe said. “It is not necessarily the lowest bidder that gets the job, but the educated contractor who brings the greatest expertise to the table. It is through teaching that expertise that we aim to help our certified applicators grow their business.”
