Lapolla and ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” Provide Spray Foam Insulation to Family in Need
October 1, 2009 - HOUSTON, TX — Lapolla Industries, Inc. (LPAD.OB) (“Lapolla”) a Houston based manufacturer and supplier of spray foam insulation, coatings, and equipment designed to reduce energy consumption in the residential and commercial markets, for both new construction and retrofit applications, today announced its participation in the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project in Springfield, Missouri for the ABC Television Network. The Emmy Award winning show features the Hamilton family home and is scheduled to air this Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 8/7c on ABC.
When the Hamilton family instantly doubled in size, the approximately 800 sq. ft. home did not meet the needs of this loving family. The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team and Millstone Custom Homes LLC of Missouri designed a new home for the Hamilton family that would create an environment for the Hamilton children to flourish. The Extreme Makeover Senior Producer, Diane Korman, contacted Lapolla to help provide a solution for a high performance insulation system that would deliver energy cost savings as well as superior air quality within the home. Lapolla quickly stepped up and facilitated the spray foam insulation for the home at no cost to the family.
Douglas J. Kramer, CEO and President of Lapolla commented, “This project allowed Lapolla to contribute to the community as well as to provide the Hamilton family with the benefits of spray foam technology and the opportunity to gain the life long advantages of a spray foam insulated home.”
Spray foam is one of the only insulation materials that can effectively seal the perimeter of a structure to minimize air leakage which accounts for as much as 40% of energy loss, stopping conditioned air from escaping, and reducing the load on the mechanical systems, leading to energy savings. Keeping unconditioned air from entering the home improves indoor air quality by limiting outdoor pollutants from entering the conditioned space. Indoor air quality is a major health concern. Studies conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and others show that indoor environments sometimes can have levels of pollutants that are actually higher than levels found outside.
InsulTech Spray Foam Insulation, a Lapolla customer and local spray foam contracting company, donated their professional expertise and the labor required to insulate the 3,800 sq. ft. home. With three onsite spray foam crews spraying the material, the Hamilton home was completely insulated within approximately five hours.
“Working with the design team and the local spray foam applicator was a privilege,” said Keith VanStavern, Lapolla’s Southern National Sales Manager. “We had the pleasure of getting to know the volunteers and meeting members of the Hamilton family. We are very proud to participate with this build and make a difference to a deserving family.”
