Lewisport Kentucky Family Gets Energy Efficient Home With Spray Foam Insulation
HOUSTON, TX — (MARKET WIRE) — October 30, 2009 — Lapolla Industries, Inc. (LPAD.OB) (“Lapolla”) is a Houston based manufacturer and supplier of spray foam insulation, coatings, and equipment designed to reduce energy consumption in the residential and commercial markets, for both new construction and retrofit applications. On September 5, 2009 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition announced to Steve and Melissa Mattingly that their current home, a small, single wide trailer, was to be replaced by a newly constructed home.
The Mattingly family lived in a small 700 square foot crumbling trailer. They could not afford to fix the home, which they also shared with their growing daughters, Alana, 12, and Madison, 11. The “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” design team planned a new 3,000 sq. ft. home with an 800 sq. ft. garage and called on Lapolla and AirTight Licensed Applicators to give this family an energy efficient home through the utilization of spray foam insulation.
Steve Mattingly was responding to a fire call at an area home, where he was asked to direct traffic around the site. Steve’s wife Melissa was driving by the fire when disaster struck. Steve was hit full speed, by a car that did not see him. An EMT herself, Melissa immediately got out of her car and ran to her husband to give him care. Although Steve has regained his ability to walk, Steve’s family knew his life had changed forever.
The Mattingly family project received so much community support that they were ahead of schedule after the third day. Lapolla’s EMHE project coordinator received an 11:00 p.m. call from Nick Thompson, the owner of Thompson Homes asking for the spray foam crews to arrive 10 hours early. In the middle of the night Mark Martin’s team from AirTight Insulation of Kentucky and Shane Fowler’s team from Fowler Insulation of Alabama loaded up their equipment to head for the Mattingly home in Lewisport, KY.
The spray foam insulation material was donated by Lapolla and the AirTight Licensed Applicators insulation spray foam crews donated the labor. They began insulating the home at 3:30 a.m. and completed the project the next afternoon. AirTight closed-cell spray foam insulation insulated the walls, the unvented attic of the home, and the 800 sq. ft. detached garage.
“The Mattingly Family was one of the five projects with ABC’s Season 7 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” stated Douglas J. Kramer, CEO and President of Lapolla. “Our customers jump at the opportunity to donate the labor to work on these projects because they believe in the special circumstances surrounding the families chosen to be helped by the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Team and the ability of Lapolla’s insulation spray foam to contribute energy cost savings and sustainable building benefits directly to the family. It did not surprise me to learn that the AirTight Licensed Applicators that worked on the Mattingly home drove all night and worked all day to complete this project on time. We are proud to work with caring professional insulation spray foam applicators across the country and contribute to the ExtremeMakeover: Home Edition projects.”
