Michigan Spray Foam Contracting Company Completes Lakeside Housing Project

LUDINGTON, MI – December 15, 2011 – Along the banks of Lake Michigan stand hundreds of lakeside cottages and homes occupied by residents from the surrounding Detroit, Chicago and Grand Rapids areas. 

Lakeshore Insulation, a Michigan-based spray foam insulation contracting company led by current president Nathan Rouwhorst, recently completed a job that involved the application of spray foam insulation onto the walls of a three-story, 4,200-square-foot lakeside house in Ludington, Mich. 

“Since the house is located right on the lake, winds up to 60 mph often shook the foundations of the home,” Rouwhorst said. “The homeowners opted with spray foam so the house will be a lot more stable once the high winds begin hitting the house.”

Due the home’s close proximity to the water, the sound of the waves often penetrated into the house as well, and could be heard at all hours of the day.

“The foam not only holds keeps the house in line, but it also acts as a soundproofing material,” Rouwhorst said.

Rouwhorst and his crew applied 2½ inches of BASF closed-cell foam onto the exterior walls of the home.

While Rouwhorst and his crew worked, the team made sure to pay special attention around all the home’s doors and windows by spraying low expanding foam aimed at decreasing air filtration, Rouwhorst said.

The crew also applied fiberglass insulation in the interior of the home.

“The homeowners are expecting guests over the summer,” Rouwhorst said. “We applied fiberglass in between the bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as between the second floor and main floor. As a result, the majority of the house will be soundproof.”

After two days of working, the Lakeshore Insulation crew completed the job with positive results.

“Although the family was not present, the builders were very pleased with our work,” Rouwhorst said.

Rouwhorst stated that there were no challenges while working on the home.

“This was a pretty standard job,” Rouwhorst said. “We do about two to three of these kinds of homes a week. Our experience with these homes made the job run smoothly.”
