New England Spray Foam Contractor Participates in “Deep Energy Retrofit Pilot”
The Green Foam Guy of Cape Ann, Massachusetts has completed one of ten projects selected to receive substantial financial incentives from National Grid. Deemed “Deep Energy Retrofit Pilot,” this initiative boasts potential reimbursements of 75% of the cost up to $35,000. Major insulation upgrades, including super insulation build-outs, are a big portion of the initiative. The pilot program requires customers team up with a contractor or designer with relevant experience to identify and propose deep retrofit projects in conjunction with customer planned projects—such as siding, windows, basement conversions and/or remodeling.
The Green Foam Guy was chosen to participate in the Gloucester, Massachusetts case study where 5” of closed-cell foam was applied to the exterior of the home to a Larson Truss system providing an air barrier as well as an R value of 43. The siding was then installed over the foam. “This project was probably one of the most interesting and satisfying jobs The Green Foam Guy has completed to date… hearing from the home owner that he shut off his furnace and he was able to heat his entire house with just a pellet stove in the basement- just makes my day.” says Keith Roberts from The Green Foam Guy.
In addition to the spray foam insulation the house was also outfitted with a 3-Panel Solar hot water system a 4.3kw solar electric system, energy star appliances and triple pane, low-E, argon (R-5) windows.
“We are proud to say that we were able to provide the insulation for this unique project. Being one out of ten makes us feel really special” said Roberts.
