New Hampshire General Store Gets a Spray Foam Makeover
NEW DURHAM, NH – May 28, 2019 – Kimberly Orr and Brad Preston are co-owners and applicators at Weathertight Spray Foam (WTSF) based in Gilford, New Hampshire.
Kim joined WTSF in 2017 with a background in both law enforcement and construction. Currently, she works in both sales and on-the-job sites for the New Hampshire spray foam company. When Kim is not busy spraying, she loves outdoor sports, such as hockey, fishing, and time with her rescue dog.
Brad, on the other hand, was in the food industry as a salesman for nearly 20 years. While building a house, he encountered a terrible experience with two different spray foam companies. Deciding to take matters into his own hands, he ended up puchasing a spray foam rig, finished his house, and ultimately left his high-paying corporate job to start Weathertight Spray Foam.
After Kimberly’s police career, she was a frame-to-finish carpenter. Brad sprayed foam for the developer that she worked for. They met on a job site and the following year, Kimberly joined Brad in setting up a business together.
Kimberly and Brad are always excited, when a spray foam job comes along that is a little "different." One such project occurred in New Durham, NH at the original New Durham General Store and its ice house, which were in the process of a remodel. Built in 1901, it is now owned by Darrel and Michelle Misiaszck, and there had been no drastic changes or modifications to the building since it was built. Brad and Kimberly foamed both buildings on the site

There is a fresh water pond in the back of the property where ice forms over every winter. This ice is cut and pulled into the back building, which is known as the “ice house”. This is where the general store owners prepare the ice to sell in the storefront.
To complete the spray foam application, Brad and Kimberly used five sets of foam applied with a Graco E-30i clear shot gun. They sprayed 3” Graco Western's GacoOnePass in the walls, 5.5” in the designated roof slopes, and 12” UTC open-cell in the remaining roof slopes. Both Brad and Kimberly take safety seriously wearing 3M™ Versaflo™ PAPR TR-300N kits.
During the remodel, they ensured the owners they would do their best to keep many of the original beams and accents exposed, to capture the true character of the space. The entire job took two days with a successful end result—a well-insulated, still-historically-appealing general store and ice house.
