Pennsylvania Spray Foam Company Contributes to Home Makeover Project
BANGOR, PA – October 19, 2011 – A Northampton County woman was recently named one of the three winners of FirstEnergy’s Energy Efficiency Home Makeover Contest.
Due to the substantial amount of energy her home consumed, Holly Tsihlis and her three children was chosen by the Met-Ed Energy Company for a whole home makeover.
“We were spending tons of money on heating bills and oil,” Tsihlis said in a interview with WFMZ 69 News.
The makeover began on the outside of the house with the removal of the gutters due to mold accumulating in the basement.
“The home was not shedding water very well,” said Jim Phelps from Performance Systems Development. “The gutters were in disrepair.”
Inside the house, closed-cell spray foam was installed from the basement to the attic as the new insulation system.
The spray foam insulation is expected to cut Tsihlis’ energy bill in half.
“Spray foam does not require any maintenance,” said Chris Schwartz from PA Spray Foam Insulation. “After it’s been sprayed, you’re done, and you have never have to deal with it again.”
A total of $10,000 worth of improvements were put into the Tsihlis home.
Since the makeover project, Tsihlis is already seeing improvements.
“The air is a lot warmer then it was before because of the heat loss that occurred,” she said.
