Smart Energy Spray Foam Insulates Liquor Store With Spray Foam
FORT SALONGA, LONG ISLAND, NY – October 3, 2012 – When energy efficiency was a top priority for a newly constructed liquor store, Smart Energy Spray Foam, Inc. was called in to insulate the building with spray foam.
Construction of the 8,000 sq. ft. building began in February of 2012. The store houses two to three million dollars worth of wine and liquor inventory, according to Robert Geiger, Owner of Smart Energy and Rhino Linings, NY.
"It's not your typical Mom-and-Pop liquor store around the corner," he said.
The building also utilizes a geothermal heating and cooling system making it more environmentally friendly and energy efficient. According to Geiger, it is important to have proper insulation for these types of buildings.
"Making it air tight with insulation is super important," he said. "It's just like your refrigerator, it has to be super tight, or your energy bills go through the roof."
He added, "More importantly, with geothermal, there's a certain amount of temperature they can work with, so the better we do our job, the more efficient the geothermal's going to be."
In phase one of the spray foam application, Smart Energy sealed the exterior walls with one inch of 2 lb. closed-cell spray foam made by Premium Spray Products. Once the mechanics were in place and the interior walls were framed, Smart Energy began phase two, which involved filling the walls with 0.5 lb. Premium Spray Products open-cell spray foam. For overspray protection, Smart Energy tarped off certain areas and used a vapor barrier.
It took four crewmembers using one to two rigs, depending on available space, about 10 days to complete the job in September of 2012.
Geiger said this was a large project, but that Smart Energy handles everything from crawlspaces to large commercial buildings. "No job is too big," he added.
