Spray Foam Direct Launches Best Renovation Story Contest To Promote Inclusion In Energy Efficiency Book
RIVERWOODS, IL – August 19. 2013 – Spray Foam Direct, the manufacturers and distributors of Foam it Green spray foam insulation, has launched a Facebook contest entitled "Best Renovation Story" to celebrate its participation in Jeff Wilson's new book, The Greened House Effect, and raise awareness of energy-efficient home renovation tactics. The contest can be found on Spray Foam Direct's Facebook page.
Spray Foam Direct has improved over 25,000 American homes with its unique insulation formula, and continually works to emphasize energy efficiency and environmentally friendly business practices. Its flagship product is Foam it Green, a polyurethane foam insulation which is both highly efficient and easy for homeowners to use. With a 24/7 customer support center and detailed how-to videos on the website, Foam it Green can be safely applied by just about anyone. Spray Foam Direct is a member of the US Green Building Council; it is Green Business Certified from the Green Business Bureau and offsets its carbon use through Terrapass. Spray Foam Direct has previously worked with author, construction expert, and HGTV and DIY Network Host Jeff Wilson to create a series of instructional 'How-To' videos for the website.
Recently, Foam it Green featured heavily in Wilson's latest book, The Greened House Effect, which details the Deep-Energy Retrofit (DER) of his older 1942 home. Through an extensive renovation process, Wilson made his house more efficient and less expensive without sacrificing its character. The project is intended to be accomplished by an experienced DIY handyperson or a small contracting team; it gives tips not only on the renovation side, but also on how to take advantage of tax credits and other money-saving incentives for going green.
Through a 7-part online video series and the newly released book, Wilson explains each step of the DER process; this includes installing solar panels, replacing siding and windows, and spraying Foam it Green polyurethane sealant to seal the building envelope completely. A DER is more than just weatherization; it aims to drastically transform the structure, minimizing its energy loss and making use of natural renewable resources and materials. The Greened House Effect was released on June 17, 2013 by Chelsea Green Publishers, and has been met with positive reviews from Amazon, the Library Journal, and HGTV.
To celebrate the book's release and honor its participation in this important project, Spray Foam Direct has launched a contest through its Facebook. The contest calls for entrants to tell their entertaining, weird, or interesting renovation stories. Facebook users will be able to vote for their preferred entry for the duration of the contest and for one week after the entries are closed, on August 18, 2013. Three winners of the Best Renovation Story contest will receive a signed copy of The Greened House Effect. A small jury of Spray Foam Direct staff will judge amongst the most-voted entries, taking into account both popularity and quality, to select the winners. The contest will run from July 26, 2013 until August 23, 2013. Voting will close on August 30, 2013; winners will be announced on September 6.
"We're blown away with what Jeff's accomplished in his home,” says Mark Munns, Business Manager of Spray Foam Direct. "The Greened House Effect is a showcase of great ways to improve your home's energy efficiency. It's also a great example of what thousands of homeowners are working toward when they're renovating their homes. That's why we're so excited to share renovation stories and what others have accomplished."
