Spray foam used to quiet skate park

Noise complaints from area residents in Newton Township, Pennsylvania, forced the closure of a public skate park a few months ago, but crews have worked to quell noise from the park, and it will soon reopen.

According to a report from PhillyBurbs.com, Newton Township residents were angered when a skate park opened a few years ago. Those who live surrounding the centrally located park frequently complained to city officials about noise levels at the park, prompting the city to close it for two months while it worked out a solution that would benefit both residents and the skateboarders who frequent the skate park.

At the end of May, the city reopened the park during what Newton Township Chairman Rob Ciervo said was a "soft opening." In an attempt to fix the problem, the city contracted with a company that specializes in the application of spray foam. Crews then applied spray foam under the ramps and covered the sides with enclosures to help soften the noise levels, the news source reports.

Many community residents said they were satisfied with the town's moves to lower the noise from the skateboarders and rollerbladers.
