Styrofoam™ Spray Foam Receives Miami-Dade Approval for Hurricane Damage Mitigation
MIDLAND, MI – May 2, 2011 –STYROFOAM™ Brand RS Series Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Insulation from The Dow Chemical Company is one of the first SPF insulations to receive Miami-Dade’s approval for hurricane damage mitigation when used to attach roof plywood decks to rafters/truss top chords on residential wood framed construction. The county’s Building and Neighborhood Compliance Department has issued a notice of acceptance (NOA) for the STYROFOAM™ Brand RS2045 & RS2060 Series Spray Polyurethane Foam, a system designed to help reduce the risk of water and wind damage to structures.
Because the product is approved for use in the entire state of Florida, including High Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ), Florida homeowners using STYROFOAM™ Brand Spray Foam may qualify for additional homeowner’s insurance reductions (consult with your specific insurance agent for qualification and discounts.) SPF insulation can be beneficial for both existing structures, as it is designed for enhancing wind uplift resistance, and for supplemental wind resistance in new construction. The product meets current building codes with higher wind damage mitigation standards and has demonstrated compliance with the Florida Building Code 2007 and HVHZ standards.
STYROFOAM™ Brand SPF Insulation is a two-component, spray-applied polyurethane foam insulation that creates a seamless barrier for protection against water and air. In addition to providing structural reinforcement, the closed-cell medium density, rigid foam expands during installation to fill cavities, cracks and crevices, blocking uncontrolled air leakage that can threaten consistent, comfortable indoor temperatures and drive up energy bills.
