2023 Tank of the Year
Last year, the People’s Choice Award and Tank of the Year winner was the Dum-Dum water tank in Bryan, Ohio, with a record-breaking 46,729 total votes. Located on the Spangler Candy Company factory campus, the water is used to make around 12 million lollipops every day. Each of the eight 65-foot-tall Dum-Dums reportedly represents one of the most popular flavors.
The tank was reportedly painted with Tnemec’s UV-resistant, long-lasting fluoropolymer finish, Series 700 HydroFlon, which is expected to help maintain the design for a long time in the state’s climate.
In July 2022, it was announced that the water tower would be getting a “sweet” new design featuring large painted lollipops thanks to Spangler Candy Company. The water tower was painted by award-winning muralist Eric Henn, who had worked on water towers and “super-sized” murals for more than 30 years.
Over 320 water tanks were reportedly nominated in 2023, creating a record of over 46,000 online votes cast from across the United and Canada. Other water tanks among the top 12 finalists for 2023 included:
- Amarillo, Texas;
- Artesia, New Mexico;
- Dunedin, Florida;
- Florence, South Carolina;
- Hugo, Oklahoma;
- Lake Worth Beach, Florida;
- Lexington, South Carolina;
- Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin;
