Eye Safety Protection......
....I was spraying an attic on a very hot day (it was like 130 degrees in the attic). When I left the attic my eyesight was so messed up. My vision is all smokey and blurred; I was wearing safety goggles while I was up there. I went to an eye specialist today and they told me in 40 years they have never seen anything like this. Has this ever happened to anyone? How long does it take for it to go away?

it is called..
blue halo, painters halo or the like

you see the eye has a large water content to the iris,,,your iris has "absorbed" some of the blowing agent that was "in the air" via the spraying process,,,thus you now have a slight "coating" or film on the outer layer of the eyeball...
this coating causes a halo effect when looking at lights and a blurred image overall...

when i finally found some "medical documentation" on this malady i learned that it is a temporary condition that goes away with time...a mild case will clear overnight, while a good dose could take a few days...it,,,i read,,is not only temporary, but really not supposed to be "permanately harmful" to your eyeball...

ladies and gentlemen...you can not take your safety precautions causually...
spend the money now,,,

full face protection....not a vented goggle or safety glasses,,,particularly in a closed in area...better yet..supplied air...

curious? what did your foam supplier say...if they too said ",,,,duh,,,dont know..".****** can em and get someone who is in the business for more than their commission on a kit of foam. they should know about this stuff if they are gonna deal this stuff...way to many re-sellers and peeps that are trying to make a fast buck on our backs,,,lets see,,,they can t answer health and safety issues,,they really dont know much about the products formulation,,they really cant give any good advice about building science or building codes....
there are some great people with a wealth of knowledge out there,,find them,,support them..your buisness and health will be better for it...

thanx for the chance to rant...again,,,
off to foam the cornfield!!!

Foamdude,

You may have mentioned it before but what eye protection would you use? Can you give me a model and where to order?

What about supplied air? What is best for spraying walls (interior), basments (exterior) and roofs (exterior)? What brand/model and where to purchase?

I think my supplier of equipment may carry some stuff but they usually refer to airgas.com???

i order from a local supply house (continental safety)
i use 3M products,,i 1/2 masks and their 6900 full face for eye protection...
peel offs and cartridges too...
cant remember their numbers,,,mommas still in bed (she knows the numbers)and i aint wakein her...
will look today for the numbers and post later..

i use SAS supplied air and i have a Bullard pump as well,,,both to the hood with peeloffs on the lens....
really havent used the supplied air much lately,
i pretty much live in the full face 6900....
i would definately use it in a tank, vessel or confined space...although i sometimes just use the full face, keep a 1/2 mask in the tool bucket...and put it on when the full face comes off...i used to wear the supplied air all the time in "the beginning"...supplied air also "cools the temple" so it could be helpful in the dog days of summer...
good luck

a correction,,
it is the cornea that absorbs the blowing agent vapors...it is like a sponge and normally is constantly gaining and loosing water as its ambient conditions change,,,normally humidity type conditions can affect it..the attic was hot and the Open cell makes water vapor as it kicks over..people with contact lenses can experience this "fuzzy or foggy view" when they subject the eye to high humidity's for prolonged periods while wearing their lens...it holds the water pressure back against the cornea not allowing the normal swelling and releasing of the fluids it absorbs...
ok...so this is in laymans terms as interpeted by a foam monkey...

???DMspecCtngs,,,how are you doing with this,,
how long did your symptoms last???
i hope you are well or getting well...
peace

FoamDude,

Is the 6900 the supplied air mask or just a filter mask? What filter/cartridges do you normally use?
Posted: Jul 15, 2006 11:46 AM
i use the 6900 full face mask...
i use it with 6001 organic vapor cartridges
#5n11 particulate filter held by #501 retaining ring (thanx george for the previous post and the product numbers cause i forgot to get the numbers from the rig...see archive pg5)
i do have a supplied air conversion set up for the 6900 mask, although i have never used it...i just go to the hood system...
