How to block attic vents prior to spray foaming
Are there any materials or techniques that are recommended for blocking a vented attic system (soffit vents, ridge vents, gable vents, attic fans, ect.), prior to spray foaming / encapsulating an attic?

What are best practices for this scenario?

We always keep a roll of "filter-glass" insulation on hand in our truck or trailer which has been very useful for this purpose. It doesn't need to be kraft faced either. We just cut it a little over sized and stuff it in the cracks, gaps, and holes and then we spray to it. It fills most of the gaps within the filter-glass and seals the air out.

For some larger areas where we can't use filter-glass, we use Low-E Reflective insulation and spray to this. It's a great option which can separate conditioned vs non-conditioned attic spaces. It a flexible product and can be formed or wrapped around whatever you want and it helps fill larger gaps or holes.

Hope this helps!
