The 2005 energy bill provided tax incentives for increasing energy efficiency in buildings. In remodeling applications, the home owner may receive up to $500 in a tax credit for energy efficient measures such as replacing AC units, better lighting and adding insulation. In commercial buildings, up to $2000 tax deductions are possible by achieving at least 50% over the IECC 2003 energy efficiency levels. This deduction goes to the general contractor or architect. (note: this is a high bar to jump over and typically is not cost effective) The 2007 energy bill contains many measures that could have some incentives but the regulations have not be developed yet. |
