Is house wrap necessary when using Open-cell Foam?
Is a Tyvek type house wrap necessary, or as useful, when using half-pound open-cell foam on the exterior walls? The contractor asked me since he figures he could save some money using a less expensive material such as 15# felt paper.

You would not need the house wrap as an air barrier but it would make a nice rain screen over the exterior sheathing. (just in case the windows or roof edges leaks) |

#15 felt makes a pretty good rain screen also if it is detailed right. I mostly speak from observations made during 17 years as a carpenter/re-modeler before I became a foam guy. |
