Wow...are you working in Massachusetts....because that is one of the prescribed Ignition Barriers by code! Mineral Wool is rated for up to 1200 degrees F vs Fiberglass - 850 degrees F Mineral wool also sheds moisture better and is has more density! I know this because I not only install spray foam but I (my company) insulates piping, boilers, breeching etc. in industrial settings! We typically utilize mineral wool with high temperature systems! |

You can actually buy mineral wool in rolls (like fiberglass batting) or in 2' x 4' board with or without jacketing: FSK or ASJ! It is not too expensive. We purchase our materials from General Insulation! |

There is a loose fill mineral wool as well, installed like cellulose. Hard to find though, manufactured in Houston, Amerrock Premium Plus mineral wool. |

Mineral wool is a man made fibre, it's created from by products from steel foundries and basalt rock. It's also known as Rock Wool, Mineral Fibre, etc. etc. Spray applied fire proofing (for steel) such as Blazeshield2 from Cafco is made from mineral wool, as is Techton 1200 pipe insulation from Roxul, and numerous other manufacturers... |
