SPF over garage AND house?
We are about to purchase a 2800sf single story home built in 2005, and will be in the house forever. It’s in Florida. We have 3 bids for insulation, each telling us something different with regard to the attic over the garage. The whole attic is one continuous space, with blown-cellulose over the conditioned space right now (which will be removed). Insulation Company A is recommending a wall be built (stapling plastic sheeting to the trusses) to separate the conditioned space from that over the garage, and they’ll spray 5.5” open cell on the roof of the main house and the constructed ‘walls’. Company B is suggesting spraying the entire roof area, including that over the garage. (I like the idea of a cooler garage in the Florida summers!) Company C is suggesting similar to A, but said that if we spray over the garage we would also need to spray the garage ceiling (in the attic) so that the garage attic becomes a part of the main house ‘conditioned’ space. Also they said this would then have little impact on the temperature in the garage. Any advice / suggestions much appreciated! Steve in Florida. |
