Amid the news and announcements that typically fill the air of the spray foam industry’s largest annual gathering, the 2014 SprayFoam Convention & Expo was notable for a seemingly mundane topic dominating conversations: weather. In any other year, the topic of weather would be a mere formality of small talk, and its presence as a frequently revisited subject might indicate dulled interest among attendees. But 2014 isn’t any other year; it’s the year of the polar vortex.
Everybody had a story, particularly those attendees from the Midwest and the Northeast: plummeting temperatures and rising snowfall; children’s’ school days missed and highway pileups witnessed. Tales of the polar vortex were traded like war stories. But all of the conversation occurred, ironically, under the clear skies and 70-degree weather of Palm Springs, California.
